Ways to Improve Your Oral Hygiene

Poor oral health and bad habits can result to risks associated with it such as tooth decay and bad breath.  Your social and professional life can also be affected by cavities and bad breath that is why it is very important to improve your oral health. Here are some ways on how to do it.

  • One of the best and simplest things to do is to brush your teeth regularly, preferably after each meal. The perfect time to brush your teeth is the soonest after eating. The longer the food debris remains in your teeth, the more chances that bacteria and plaque will form in your teeth. Eventually, this will cause tooth decay. Always change your toothbrush every 2 or 3 months to avoid transferring bacteria from the toothbrush to your mouth.
  • Aside from brushing, floss your teeth as well to remove trapped food particles in your teeth. By properly flossing, it will help you to have healthier gums and accumulation of cavities and tartar between your teeth can be prevented.
  • Keep your tongue clean by using tongue scraper to remove the food debris and bacteria in your tongue.  Failure to do this can also result to bad breath.
  • Drinking a lot of water also contribute in having a clean mouth and also in keeping your breath fresh.  Bad breath is caused by anaerobic bacteria which mean that these bacteria do not use oxygen. Since water contains oxygen, bacteria will have difficulty thriving in your mouth.
  • Avoid drinking soda. Sodas contain lots of sugar and phosphoric acid that attacks the enamel.  It works by weakening your enamel thus making your teeth susceptible to cavities.
  • Keep your mouth fresh by using sugar-free mint flavour mouthwash. Make sure that it does not contain alcohol because alcohol dries out the mouth tissues making the mouth more prone to bacteria.
  • Visit the dentist regularly to have your mouth and teeth checked for any signs of deterioration. And if there is any, the dentist will be able to deal that issue at once and prevent further damage.

Taking the best methods to ensure a good oral hygiene starts with awareness and education. People should know the do’s and don’ts in order to have that excellent oral health that you ever dreamed of.
